'Cause I wanna be dancin' all night long

Planning for my Thirtieth has been very indecisive to say the least. Here were some of the ideas I had come up with:

Dance Central themed party
Restaurant crawl at Bridgestreet w/ a night at the Westin
Costume themed party
Hotel party in duplex type room plus kitchen
Overnight stay in another city (b-ham, atl, DISNEY!)
VEGAS! (yeah, uh no. I wish.)

So after much thought and random spouting of ideas (much to S's dismay (the spouting not the final decision.)) I've decided to do what I like (duh!) and eat my favorite dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant where they serve one of my favorite drinks, MARGARITAS (who knew??). I was still leaning towards going to a hotel afterwards just to get out of the house but you know what? That just seems like so much more hassle than I want to deal with. Getting everything ready to take there, setting up there, repacking everything up and loading it back into the car, unloading it back into the house and then staring at it stacked up on the kitchen/dining room floor. Yeah.. no. We'll just save ourselves that $130 and pretty up our house and have everyone come to us. I say "everyone" but watch it just be my bff, her bf, my SIL and my BIL oh and S =) which I'm realizing really wouldn't be that bad. I think I felt if we got a hotel there was so much more to expect and I didn't want to worry about other people's expectation on my birthday celebration. If I have it at home (where most people have already seen my lackluster decor and such) I can comfortably drink, eat and dance like a fool.

So as a reminder to all birthday planners of their own birthdays everywhere: DO WHAT YOU LIKE! If you want to stuff your gut with Mexican deliciousness then DO IT. You want to have fancy-ish drinks (see: not beer) then DRINK THEM. Dance like a wannabe breakdancer/raver? BRING IT!

For some reason this song is now in my head. Enjoy =)

Play, come on, play that song
Play it all night long
Just turn it up and turn me on
Play, come on DJ
Play that song
You know that it turns me on
DJ just play that song
'Cause I wanna be dancin' all night long
Play, Jennifer Lopez circa 2001 (ELEVEN years ago.. Gah! I'm getting old.)

And I'm back.. on track =)

Down 3.6 pounds! Yes!

Isn't it funny when you actually follow the plan you get the right results? I'm basically back at my ww goal weight but I'm hoping to surpass that and hit my "original goal" by my birthday. I have 4-5 weeks to lose another 5+ pounds so send me some good thoughts!

Yesterday my ww leader told us to come up with a goal we want to achieve by Labor Day. Well, I have a lofty goal of getting to my "ultimate goal" weight but I figure as long as I'm under 130 I'll be happy. This will be especially amazing since I plan to eat and drink A LOT for my 30th =)

My birthday is actually on a Tuesday so we'll be celebrating on the Saturday before. I know I want to eat my Mexican love ~ Tacos al Carbon.. Mmmmmmm! So yummy. With cheese and sour cream, thank you very much. I think I also want some sushi at some point maybe for dinner on my actual birthday? A custard filled chocolate glazed doughnut would be delicious and I actually just thought about getting up the morning after all of the drinking and getting Eggs Blackstone at Another Broken Egg, soooo good! (Good thing I plan on running a 5k the morning of the celebration, huh? Maybe I should have made it a half marathon with all of the points+ laden food I want!)

With my 30th approaching I've been thinking about starting a list of Things I Want To Do: My First Year of Thirty. (Might need a shorter name.) I was inspired by a high school friend who completed 29 of her 30 things she wanted to do in 3 months before her 30th. I figured if I tried to do that with my birthday fast approaching I was totally setting myself up for disappointment and that's no way to start a new year. Instead I want to give myself a full year to complete a list that will include: zip lining, running a 10k, read/listen to more books, skiing, try new recipes, perfect specialties, etc. I'll have a more concrete list shortly since I only have 35 days until my year officially begins =)

The Plan

Since I'm not actively running right now I've lowered my daily points back down to 26 from 29. I've had to modify serving sizes to accomadate this itty bitty number but I'm making it work! My main plan is to actually follow the ww plan =) I mean it works so if I could just follow it then everything will be right with the world.

So that's 26 pt+ per day, at least 2 bottles of water (33.8oz/1L) but strive for 3, lots of fruits and veggies, lower carb intake and track, track, track!

I'm on day 4 of Getting Back on Track and I'm feeling pretty darn good. Last night, I made teriyaki meatloaf, corn casserole and (heated up) greens for dinner. Made my yummy pizza dough crust for Friday, baked cookies for one of N's teachers who is leaving =( and cleaned up the kitchen. I was superwoman/mom! I had been feeling sluggish and cranky which I can see now was a result of my crappy eating habits. Ya think?!

I'm not too focused on exercise at this moment since it's just not my main concern.. I'm in a non-running rut and not feeling Jillian right now. I am wondering about picking up a yoga dvd at the library and giving that a go. I know I've done the ww plan before without exercise and it works so I'm not really worried about not losing weight but I am looking for that one activity that really brings me joy. I have a love-hate relationship with running and I'm always having to psych myself up for it. I mean some days are better than others and I can't wait to tie up my shoes but most days it just seems like a chore. I want to find that one sport/hobby/activity that totally hooks me and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again. Right now, I'm thinking horseback riding and yoga are possible contenders. Unfortunately, riding lessons are very expensive. I looked up one place in town and it was $35 per hour so for a month that would cost me $140! And that's only if I was riding for one hour per week.. so yeah, no riding lessons right now. Yoga on there other hand is relatively cheap if I go the dvd route. Even if I attended actual classes I think it was about $15-$20 per class as a walk-in. I also like the fact that yoga claims to help you connect with yourself. Physically and spiritually. Anyway, I'll probably check out some dvd's and let you know how it goes from there.

What's going on?

Well, for starters I have sunburn/heat rash from hell. Ugh, it's so nasty and I was completely miserable this past weekend. I couldn't even cuddle with my little munchkin and I think it was giving us both withdrawal symptoms.

I haven't run in about two weeks and now with the above mentioned rash I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. Tight clothes (ie. sports bras) are not my friend right now. Bras in general are a no go and believe me that's a travesty.

I have less than 6 weeks before my 30th birthday and I'm nowhere near my goal.. who knew maintenance/additional weight loss was such a bee-otch.

Three year olds are.. well, if you have children I'm sure you already know. Especially three year old BOYS. I'm really only guessing on the boys because N is still (mostly) a sweetheart. She's slowly showing signs of the impending Terrible Two's but I still have hope that she won't have a full fledged case of the TT's.

On a positive note, we just made our mortgage ~$200 less a month!!! Woohoo for refinancing! We've stayed on budget 95% of the time and with the new "extra" money we'll be able to pay more toward our debt.

I'm still hoping to payoff our debt by the end of 2014. Just in time to save some money for a decent down payment (plus whatever we can get out of our current home) and move into a bigger house in a better neighborhood by the school year of 2015.

So that's what's going on in a nutshell.

I'll be back (promise!) to give a break down of my plan to at least be back at my Original Goal Weight by my birthday =)

I have a blog??

Oh right, I do.

What have we been up to lately? Hmmm..

1. Well, I did my Anniversary 5k on Monday and shaved off 4:05 from my time last year =)
2. N is finally saying yes! Really she says, "aww no.. *pause* aww yes!" Whatever I'll take it!
3. She was finally moved up to the Toddler class and I think she's loving it. She ran in and hugged her teacher this morning and that makes me VERY happy.
4. D is exhibiting typical 3 year old behavior and it brings stress and joy depending on what 5 minute span of the day it is..
5. S is down ~7lbs! He called and told me he is no longer considered Obese and is just Overweight per the BMI standards.
6. My bff is in luuuuuuuve =)
7. I'm still fluctuating 5lbs and I'm just dealing right now. I'm sure as I get closer to August I'll try and crack down on it but until then I'm just eh about it.
8. My next 5k isn't until August but I'm telling myself to KEEP ON TRACK!
9. My (possible) 10k is in September.. September FIRST which might as well be in August. Ahhhhhhh!

And in closing..

10. My childhood/teenage pet.. nevermind.. just know that yesterday had some rough moments and I.. can't even really write about it.

Week 3 is brutal! (5/2)

We just did week 3 and it was just wrong on so many levels.

The duck walk?? Burning. Burning in my thighs!

Tomorrow is S's first weigh in since starting ww =) I hope the scale does not disappoint. Cross your fingers!

I'm no longer watching my weeklies. If I use them I do and if I don't then there's more for drinks.. just kidding! Well, except for this weekend. We're going to try the Bud Light Lime-a-Rita's in celebration of my cat's birthday. She was born on May 5th, 2005 =) Happy Cinco de Mayo Amai!

I've begun working on a for real debt eliminating budget/plan. With D turning 3 this past weekend it only makes our need to get rid of our credit debt and start working on moving to a school district that we like all the more necessary. My plan is to be in our new house by the summer of 2015. D will be starting 1st grade that fall and I don't want him to start at one school just to have to transfer once we're in our permanent home.

I'll probably be talking about this more and hopefully be laying out a concrete plan very soon. A new month always gets me excited to budget properly =) It's a fresh start and a new day. I've been playing with the idea of thinking of our debt as "excess weight" we want to lose. I think I even want to make "going" and "gone" jars for it. Hmmmm..

7 Quick Takes to Cover 5 Days

1. We (S and I) decided we won't do Jillian on Friday/Saturday/Sunday and I get a break on Monday while he does his arm/pushup workout. I think I might be winning in this balance ;)

2. I ran 9 miles total last week! With no pain (as of right now) to speak of.

3. I baked one batch of cookies and a box of cupcakes on Friday and then another batch and box on Sunday. I must really love my kid. I did get to eat the batter each time so it was pretty much a win-win. Batter doesn't count by the way! It's raw therefore free. I just said it so I just decreed it!

4. We went to the circus for D's birthday gathering and it was a success! He loved it and I think everyone had a great time.

5. I ate a huge salad for a dollar (it didn't cost a dollar, I was challenged to eat it all FOR a dollar). Not really a challenge though since I'm a member of the Clean Plate Club but he didn't know that. I guess I kind of hustled him? But I had to give it back when I challenged him to finish his entire beer.. come to think of it I don't think that was a challenge either!

6. My "baby" boy turned 3! He asked for cookies, candy and cake so I made him Chocolate Cupcakes topped with Chocolate Chip/M&M Cookies. He was impressed =) He also loves his "Mr. Tater Head" it's his "fabor-it".

7. With all of the cupcakes and cookies I managed to maintain my weight this week. I feel comfortable right now at this weight but I know I want to still try and lose that last 10 pounds. But if it becomes too much of a hassle or I don't get to "enjoy" my life as much because I'm constantly worried about what I'm eating I'm not sure I want to be at a lower weight. At next week's meeting we're talking about motivation so maybe I just need a swift kick to the booty to get back in gear. I'll keep you posted <-- see what I did there??

Tofu Thursday (4/26)

When I told S we should cut back on the ground beef and start eating more chicken, fish, turkey and maybe tofu he was all for it =)

I made teriyaki tofu with frozen veggies and rice. I think next time I want to try it with some broccoli to be more veggie filling but otherwise it was very yummy and low in points. The whole block of extra firm tofu was only 9 pts! Each serving with sauce was a measly 3 pts+. Yum and Yay!

Breakfast:
Cereal mix (honey nut cheerios and kix) - 5 pts+
Milk - 2 pts+

Snack:
Banana - 0 pts+

Walked for 35 minutes. I was keeping pace with another woman from the office and at the end I was jogging to keep up with her. She has a lot longer legs than I do. I'm sure cars passing by thought we looked really funny together =)

Lunch:
Taco soup - 5 pts+
Cheese - 1 pts+
Sour cream - 1 pts+

Snacks:
Mochi mango - 1 pts+
Cantaloupe w/ cheese - 1 pts+

Dinner:
Light green smoothie - 1 pts+
Tofu teriyaki w/ rice (1/2 cup) - 6 pts+

Dessert:
Watermelon - 0 pts+ No I didn't eat all of this.. well I munched on all of the rinds but I cut the rest up for later. I swear!

Total: 24 pts+ I'm short 2 pts right now but I'll probably grab something after our workout.

Jillian: 21x as soon as I post.. and clean the kitchen.. I'm gonna do it.. I will!

I'm going to wash my cat (4/25)

Seriously. I bought some cat shampoo and will be attempting to wash my 7 year old cat possibly this weekend. I might be crazy. I'll try and take pictures.

Breakfast:
EMPBHB - 5 pts+

Lunch:
Newk's Favorite Salad - 15 pts+ and it was delicious! Dried cranberries, grapes, lettuce, chicken, artichokes, nuts and gorgonzola.. Grown up taste buds get all the fun.

Ran 3 miles! Go me!

Recovery snacks:
Cheddar cheese - 3 pts+
Crackers - 2 pts+
Apple slices - 0 pts+
Gatorade - 1 pts+

D requested taco soup for dinner so I picked up some ground turkey and made some pretty darn good soup. S is going to start following a healthier "diet" and try to start tracking =) I checked how many points his get and the lucky guy gets 41! That's almost as many as I got when I was nursing. Mmmm those were the days.

Dinner:
Taco soup - 5 pts+
Cheese (1/2 serving) - 1 pts+
Sour cream - 1 pt+

Dessert:
The very last mini cadbury egg (1 pts+) and it was all mine! All mine! It was actually from S's "basket" but he was feeling charitable and let me have it.

Total: 34 pts+

Jillian: 20x before the night is over!

Random Things About Me

Okay, this was given to me a looooong time ago from Annie. I'm a little bit of a slacker sometimes so this got put on the back burner. Sorry Annie!

Alrighty, I'm supposed to follow the rules (see below) and on numbers 4-6 I'm supposed to "socialize" with other bloggers. Unfortunately, I don't really know that many. Yes, I read their blogs but don't really feel comfortable actually contacting them. I might be more of a lone blogger or at least the kind that feels more comfortable if you approach me. I'm shy what can I say?

Anywho, here's 1-3 =)

The rules:

1. Post these rules.
2. You must post 11 random things about yourself.
3. Answer the questions set for you in their post.
4. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
5. Go to their blog and tell them you've tagged them.
6. No stuff in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you are reading this". You legitimately have to tag 11 people.

11 Random Things About Me

1. I am currently listening to a book on my ipod (work), reading a book on my kindle (randomly) and reading an actual book (before bed).

2. I am slightly scared of people in head-covering costumes. Disney World is the most magical place on earth as long as the characters keep their distance.

3. I used to have my tongue pierced because it made me cooler.. yeah, I know it didn't.. now. Stupid teenager/hindsight.

4. I once cracked a tooth on a chip. It might have had something to do with the above piercing.

5. I hope to someday own a Toyota Celica (2000-newer)

6. I went through high school and college painstakingly attempting to not crack the spines of my text books.

7. I'm better now. Kids do that to you. What with the chewing, tearing, slobbering and BENDING OF THE PAGES it's just better that I let go.

8. I might have a box of old Seventeen/YM magazines hidden in my house somewhere. Old as in 1990 old.

9. I despise blue cheese but will tolerate (maybe even like) gorgonzola.

10. I'm the loudest shy person you'll probably ever know. I've gotten better with using my inside voice but high school was ree-donk-u-lous. Ask April.

11. I like to smell my baby's toes. Baby = my child not my husband. Ewww!

11 Questions for the tagees:

1. What made you want to get healthy?
Weight loss and setting a good example for my kids.

2. Cardio or weight-training?
Cardio! I get bored doing so many reps.

3. What has been your biggest NSV (non-scale victory) to date?
Feeling sexy during my boudoir shoot ;)

4. What do you love most about your body?
How strong my legs look when working out. Oh and my collar bone.

5. Why (to question #4)?
My legs because they look strong and lean and my collar bone because it disappeared while I was pregnant and I couldn't wait for it to show back up.

6. Who has been your biggest supporter through this journey?
Hmmm.. My husband, April and actually Annie =) She totally perked me up when she left a motivating comment.

7. In the next 6 months, what is the biggest goal you're working towards?
I'm turning 30 in August and I would like to be the fittest I've ever been. I've also semi-chosen my first 10k and it's at the end of August.

8. What is the one thing you won't give up as you lost weight?
Bubble tea!

9. Most motivational quote or person?
Slow and steady wins the race. Applies to weight loss and running. Remember you're only running against yourself =)

10. What is your favorite non-healthy food?
Do you even have to ask?? Cheesy bread. The whole damn order of cheesy bread.

11. What is you favorite healthy food?
Frozen yogurt is healthy, right? Yes? No?

I feel pretty! (4/24)

(I tried to post last night from my phone but it never actually got posted. It is now lost in blogger limbo.)

Today was the big day! Boudoir shoot day and it was awesome. My stylist (April's sister) was above and beyond awesome. She did my hair (lots of volume and waves = LOVED IT!), nails and toes. Last night I was running around trying to get last minute things done and ran out of time to get the mani/pedi I wanted. I was pretty bummed out about it but turns out Amy K can save the day =) I got a gel manicure and you definitely need to go get one! It was done in less than 15 minutes. Done, dry, ready to go, done. How amazing is that?? My toes were a little wet before I left her salon so I had to hobble my way to the car and when I went to see the girl to do my lashes but it all worked out. My lashes were va-va-voom lashes meaning WINGED OUT. The girl gave me a choice and mentioned if I was doing a boudoir shoot I might like these. I said sure and she got all giddy because the other girls rarely pick these. Uh oh! At first I was a little weirded out because they were very out there but after looking at myself in the mirror (especially once I started putting the outfits on) I realized they really make the whole look come together.

Here's after I got my hair did.

My photographer was awesome. She made me very comfortable and we were able to chat without weirdness about oh I don't know bare cheeks and leftover prego bellies =) She was very directional which helped me out tons since I never know where my arms need to go and what angle my shoulders need to be. I was relieved she wasn't going to just let me wing it while she snapped some shots and then said all done. She really took her time to position me and move lighting, change my hair, move my arm, etc. Loved the whole experience.

All the people I saw today while getting primped asked me if it was a special occasion and when I said boudoir shoot they wanted to know if it was a present.. Yes! A present for me =) I'm turning 30 in a few months and I want to remember this time in my "youth" where I feel good about my body (overall) and this session only made me feel more comfortable in my own body. Crazy. Note to self: Get a big mirror and lean it against the wall at an angle and it makes you look way leaner and longer ;)

Since today was one of the events I have been working towards I kinda went all out with the goodies..

Yeah, that was chocolate glazed custard filled deliciousness.. and that might have been a whole order (minus one piece) of cheesy bread.. but look! A green smoothie! That's healthy =)

Also, I did do Jillian tonight so that should cancel.. a piece of cheesy bread? and maybe a bite of that chocolaty goodness?? No? Whatever! It was worth it and I feel like a million bucks!

Under 35 minutes!! (4/21)

Woohoo! Ran my first 5k since August in under 35 minutes! I went out hoping to just do better than my first 5k (38 minutes) and without killing myself in the process. I started out slow and hung back with my regular running buddy and then as she slowed I started to push myself a little bit. I caught up with another friend and chitchatted for a few minutes and then was able to press on the gas a little more. In the last stretch right before the chute I gunned it and sprinted past a couple more runners =) Yeah, I was that B. Oh well. Amazingly, I didn't feel like death and I actually got a semi-runner's high during the last mile. I was just enjoying myself so much and it felt so good to be running. Crazy, right? The temperature was wonderful. I think it was in the 60's or something and there was a decent breeze and mostly overcast. I was also looking forward to my shoe fitting at the local running store after the race. I got a coupon in my packet for $20 off if you got shoes, socks and inserts. Well, I was already wanting to get shoes and inserts so go ahead and throw in some socks. I also had my gift certificate from last year's race =) so a total of $40 off! I left with Nike Zoom Structure Triax (in an 8!! I've always bought 7's!), Balega socks and Superfeet inserts. I can't to try it all out on Monday.

Later that night I had a double date with my hubby, my bff (April) and her new boyfriend. I have to say we all voted and he's a great fit and a definite keeper. I might have told him I fell a little in love when he said he read The Hunger Games (!!). Love a guy who reads.

We went bowling and S won the first game and I won the second which is aah-MAzing since I suck at bowling so much. Maybe the other two were just a little distracted.. or we were just so hilarious it was hard to concentrate? It was fun whatever it was. I can't wait for our next double date =)

I've been thinking about having fitness goals as opposed to weight loss goals. I still want to lose 10ish pounds but since those are the hardest to lose I think I would have a better outlook if I had something else to work towards. Some of the goals could be running related or how many workouts I get a month or how many activity points I can rack up.. I'm going to think on it some more but I'm definitely leaning in that direction.
