I entered the year 2009 patiently waiting the birth of my first baby. I say patiently because I was perfectly content on keeping him safe and conveniently "packaged" within me. I had a great pregnancy. No morning sickness, no major back pain, mild acid reflux, normal swelling and less hair loss. To name a few positives. I believe this added to my contentment. I was definitely anxious of this little being that was about to become a part of my two person family. I had no idea how much he was about to change the dynamics of our lives. I went to my 40 week appointment on April 28th, a Tuesday. The doc checked me out and said lets get you induced. S and I were like okay, I was thinking the following week sometime.
"Ok, how about tomorrow?" as she's handing me a paper with tomorrow's date on with for a scheduled induction.
"Ummmmm.."
**tears**
I freaked! Seriously? Tomorrow? We don't have time to prepare ourselves! Of course we WERE already material-wise prepared. But seriously? Tomorrow? At what time?? 5:30? AM?!
So the nurse proceed to chat with us (as in talk us into it) and we decided to go ahead with the induction.
The rest of the evening was a blur. My mom suggested we go out to eat, one last time, just the two of us. I'm so happy we were able to do that. Good job, Mom! The rest of the evening involved packing, washing, preparing and some unmentionables. Laughable unmentionables, but unmentionables all the same.
April 29th
We arrived at the hospital on time waiting to be called (I should mention that I actually started getting mild contraction!)and were then shown to our room. Mind you, we arrived at 5:30am and I kept saying he better get here before 7pm so I can watch ANTM. Then I said he better get here before 8pm so I can send someone to get me my first bubble tea being a mom.
10:18.. PM! That is when D finally made his debut.
I did get my celebratory bubble tea the next day. For FREE from the smoothie place! My son may or may not have received 80% of his nutritional needs by way of bubbles =)
Anyway, that was the beginning of 2009. The months following D's birth were also a blur. They say babies have to eat every 2-3 hours. They fail to mention that said feeding may take 20 minutes. Cutting into the time in between. Causing some moms to stress the f out! You're tired, your body feels weird. You're leaking from multiple orifices. It's not a pretty picture.
It obviously got better, as everyone said it would. I can now leave the house, showered, makeuped, diaper bag in hand and with the actual baby! I might forget random items (burp cloth! extra bibs! paci!!) but we at least make it out into the real world.
I've even started contemplating another one! Seriously! If you had asked me those first few weeks of D's life if we were having any more, I would have laughed in your face! Hard. I had a regular conversation with my kid that if he kept acting that way, "You're going to be an ONLY CHILD!"
But it slowly fades into the depths of my memory and now I'm kinda hoping we get pregnant again this upcoming year.. shhhhh, it's a secret ;)
So, 2010 should be a handful. Some of our possible tasks include: selling our house, buying a new house, raising a one year old (who is already the size of a one year old! 23 lbs! he's only 7.5 months!), possible trip to MO, teaching said one year old to swim, plan for another ankle bitter, buy a new car?? and Christmas with my parents in NM/FL.
I think it will be fun with my little family, these new adventures. So naive am I?
I don't care 2010 is going to awesome and I can't wait!
