2009 Remix

I entered the year 2009 patiently waiting the birth of my first baby. I say patiently because I was perfectly content on keeping him safe and conveniently "packaged" within me. I had a great pregnancy. No morning sickness, no major back pain, mild acid reflux, normal swelling and less hair loss. To name a few positives. I believe this added to my contentment. I was definitely anxious of this little being that was about to become a part of my two person family. I had no idea how much he was about to change the dynamics of our lives. I went to my 40 week appointment on April 28th, a Tuesday. The doc checked me out and said lets get you induced. S and I were like okay, I was thinking the following week sometime.

"Ok, how about tomorrow?" as she's handing me a paper with tomorrow's date on with for a scheduled induction.

"Ummmmm.."

**tears**

I freaked! Seriously? Tomorrow? We don't have time to prepare ourselves! Of course we WERE already material-wise prepared. But seriously? Tomorrow? At what time?? 5:30? AM?!

So the nurse proceed to chat with us (as in talk us into it) and we decided to go ahead with the induction.

The rest of the evening was a blur. My mom suggested we go out to eat, one last time, just the two of us. I'm so happy we were able to do that. Good job, Mom! The rest of the evening involved packing, washing, preparing and some unmentionables. Laughable unmentionables, but unmentionables all the same.

April 29th
We arrived at the hospital on time waiting to be called (I should mention that I actually started getting mild contraction!)and were then shown to our room. Mind you, we arrived at 5:30am and I kept saying he better get here before 7pm so I can watch ANTM. Then I said he better get here before 8pm so I can send someone to get me my first bubble tea being a mom.

10:18.. PM! That is when D finally made his debut.

I did get my celebratory bubble tea the next day. For FREE from the smoothie place! My son may or may not have received 80% of his nutritional needs by way of bubbles =)

Anyway, that was the beginning of 2009. The months following D's birth were also a blur. They say babies have to eat every 2-3 hours. They fail to mention that said feeding may take 20 minutes. Cutting into the time in between. Causing some moms to stress the f out! You're tired, your body feels weird. You're leaking from multiple orifices. It's not a pretty picture.

It obviously got better, as everyone said it would. I can now leave the house, showered, makeuped, diaper bag in hand and with the actual baby! I might forget random items (burp cloth! extra bibs! paci!!) but we at least make it out into the real world.

I've even started contemplating another one! Seriously! If you had asked me those first few weeks of D's life if we were having any more, I would have laughed in your face! Hard. I had a regular conversation with my kid that if he kept acting that way, "You're going to be an ONLY CHILD!"
But it slowly fades into the depths of my memory and now I'm kinda hoping we get pregnant again this upcoming year.. shhhhh, it's a secret ;)

So, 2010 should be a handful. Some of our possible tasks include: selling our house, buying a new house, raising a one year old (who is already the size of a one year old! 23 lbs! he's only 7.5 months!), possible trip to MO, teaching said one year old to swim, plan for another ankle bitter, buy a new car?? and Christmas with my parents in NM/FL.

I think it will be fun with my little family, these new adventures. So naive am I?

I don't care 2010 is going to awesome and I can't wait!

Seriously chick? SERIOUSLY?

Ok, so I have to document this because I think it is hilarious. There is a girl that is/was participating in the biggest loser contest. Well, she said she gained the first week and then consistently lost 2-4lbs the rest of the weeks. When asked about her weight loss she said she lost around 8lbs. Here's where the fishy part comes in. On the posted weight loss sheet it says that she is at a 7% loss. So am I. I weigh about 50lbs less then her (I have the charts) and I've lost 11lbs (per the scale at work). How does she weigh more than me, lose less than me but yet still be at the same percentage? It turns out that she told the mediator that she had lost 13lbs. I don't know about ya'll but I keep track of my loss. ESPECIALLY when it's a big loss like 13lbs! 8lbs versus 13lbs?? Come on! But, anyway. I posted Monday's weight losses and added at the bottom, "Final weigh in will be Friday... Debbie will monitor final weigh ins." Just so we are all kept honest, right? Well, when this chick finds out that someone is going to be up at the scale with her, she decides that we're all being childish and drops out! DROPS OUT!! She's tied for first place and she drops out! WTH?! Even if she was lying she could have gone to the scale and been like, "Oh I guess I gained this week. It's been really stressful!" Or something?? Needless to say, she's pissed off at the whole office and dropped out of the Thanksgiving lunch and Secret Santa.

I'm secretly hoping she'll just drop out of working here. But that's just between us.. shhhhhh..

Final week..

and I gained. Booooooooo.

2.5 lbs! I am now tied for first place. I'm still going strong with my oatmeal, apples (honeycrisp - LOVE!) and fiber bars but now I feel like my supply is freaking out a bit. I'm taking in an extra 5 pts on top of the regular 10 pt addition for breastfeeding. But I'm trying not to eat too late into the night and always forget that I have those extra points. Last night I still had almost 10 pts left! I ended up eating 3 pts of pretzels (buffalo wing flavor - yummy) and some orange juice. I still have a sore throat so I thought the juice might help. My weight this morning was the same =(
I'm hoping to at least lose the 2.5 lbs that I gained by Friday (final weight-in).

So far..

We are now into week 4 of the BL contest at work and I am down 12.2 lbs! Currently in the lead with a 8% loss. I can't believe it's going so well! I only have 15.3 lbs to go. Woo hoo! So obviously weight watchers is going well. I did have a dip in my milk supply but we also just added lunch to D's menu so it's working out. I did increase my points just a little to help out (and I still lost! Yay!). I am also attempting to drink at least 3 cups of the mother's milk tea to boost my supply.

S, D and I are going down to FL for Thanksgiving where my mom will finally get to see D again. She hasn't seen him since he was 2 weeks old! She's so excited about seeing him! I also can't wait to see her =) I know she'll be proud of my weight loss too. Maybe so proud that she'll help out with some new clothes?? Hehe.. j/k. (unless you going to do it!)

So I have some ideas of what I think I want my goal gifts to be:
  • manicure/pedicure
  • facial
  • haircut
  • new jeans
Not sure which ones will match up to which goals but at least I have an idea. Also, the goals that I can think of are 10% loss, first goal and ultimate goal aka my "goal-goal".

10-12 First Week of BL at Work!

Today is weigh-in day and I'm so excited! We are doing a 5 week BL contest at work where we pay $5.00 and weigh-in today and on November 20th. Whoever loses the most (percentage-wise) wins 75% of the cash and the second place winner gets 25%. I think it's going to be good healthy competition and it'll be a great motivator. I can't wait to see where we'll be in 5 weeks! So far today, I've had a nutrigrain bar, oatmeal, apple and right now eating some 0 point soup. I'm still a little nervous about my (milk) supply but I figure if I notice a drop I'll just increase my points.
My goal is to lose about 20-30lbs but I would love to just be able to look good in my old jeans and my radiohead shirt. I'm trying to think of a reward for when I reach my goal. Any suggestions? I'm thinking something lasting.. new wardrobe?? Maybe a commemorative tattoo? Ideas anyone??

Seven Super Quick Takes

  1. My new favorite bubble tea is green tea. It's deliciously light and very yummy!
  2. D is now wearing a range of sizes from 3-12 months! Someone might have to hold me soon.
  3. I was wined and dined in the best way possible this weekend.. with a green tea bubble tea and a california avocado sandwich from atlanta bread company.
  4. I need some moral support and advise/tips on asking for a raise.
  5. My two year anniversary is coming up and I'm still trying to decide if I want to try and eat meat again.. I've been vegetarian for ~2.5 years but definitely craving some filet mignon!
  6. Making vegetarian stroganoff tonight and I can't wait! YUM!
  7. I must be hungry.. most of my takes are about food =p

I'm back!

It's been a while, huh?
Since the last time I posted.. I've had a baby, learned how to breastfeed, change diapers, swaddle, gone back to work, cried when I left my baby at daycare and started baby food to name a few.

I don't really know where to begin.. but.. I guess I should start with the kid =)

D was born on April 29th, 2009 at 10:18pm. He weighted 7lbs 9oz and was 20.5inches long.

He's already 5 months old! He'll be 21 weeks on Wednesday. I can't believe it! At his daycare there is a new baby boy that is 12 weeks old and I can't even believe how much D has changed since he was that age.

We started solids about two weeks ago. Rice cereal first and then this past Friday I gave him some sweet potatoes. He wasn't too impressed. Then I gave him some last night and he totally had his mouth open for more! He finished the whole jar! I'm thinking of giving him sweet peas tonight but we'll see how our evening goes.

We also started to leave him unswaddled for bed which is going pretty well. We kept finding him unswaddled in the morning and then S found him with the longer part of the miracle blanket around his face. So, that night we put him in some footie pj's and kept one arm in and tied the loose arm in a knot. We did that for a couple of nights and then the third night I forgot to knot it before he fell asleep. Not wanting to wake him after I had already laid him down, I just slightly tucked it under him. The next morning I found him with both arms through the sleeves! Since that night I've just put him in the pj's and he's been awesome. We DO put a paci in his mouth and if he wakes up we stick it back in. Otherwise, it's been a breeze!

One of my BFs mentioned starting a blog to keep a record of the cute things her kids do. Great idea! I figure it couldn't hurt to try and it'll be great to read back on.

That's all for now. I hope to keep up with this better than I did with the actual pregnancy ;)

25 weeks!

I'm 25 weeks and 2 days today! Still feeling pretty good. As my mom said I haven't had a bad day yet. Nights on the other hand are a little more uncomfortable. I can't get situated. I'm paranoid about sleeping only on my side (preferably left, of course). I got comfortable last night but then woke up with a cramp in my arm from where I was hugged up on my pillow too hard. TOO HARD! Who grips the crap out of their pillow?? Anyway, I only wake up once a night so that's good. I feel bad for the pregnant mamas that are peeing 2 or 3 times a night. I don't think I could handle it.

I've begun working on the baby's room. I have no idea what to do with extra blankets, linens, pillows, etc. And they're not baby blankets. They're queen/king size comforters, probably 4 regular size pillows and I have no place to put them. Any ideas?

I have been clearing out a lot of acumilated crap that I've collected over the years. I think I've divided it up into a handfull of catagories. Including S and my relationship, BF, high school and college. I feel pretty good about that. I just want to get something to put the stuff in besides shoe boxes. I like the paper storage boxes at Ikea. They look good and would make my collection of junk look more unified.

Back to the baby. We have a name! I love it but kinda scared because I don't want to get too attached. I still feel a little distant from him too. I think once we do the 4d I'll feel different. You know, once I can see his little face. I did think of him yesterday when I was driving home. I was looking in my rearview mirror and imagined what it would be like to have him sitting in his rear facing car seat. It made me feel like I was ready for what's to come. S and I are going to register this weekend since my friends are throwing me a shower next month. I hope the store gives us a list to help newbies out! Since, we have no idea what to register for. I know that we'll register for the travel system and some bottles. But really, what are people going to be willing to buy? Baby stuff is pretty expensive! I also want to register for a breast pump which is also super expensive. I'm hoping DH's aunts will get together and buy a big item. That would be awesome!

We have the glucose test at the end of the month. We ordered the furniture. Yea! Room is coming together. I think we're somewhat on track.. right?

Well, got to get back to work. Blah..
